Introducing… Nextract!
You heard it here first!
Some of you may have cottoned on to my latest project by now, since we launched “Nextract” technology at Future Food Tech in San Francisco in March, to an excited and intrigued audience of FoodTech enthusiasts!
Nextract is a breakthrough technology which marries traditional supercritical CO2 (I didn’t know either - it’s a unique state of matter! You can find out more here) with engineering borrowed from the recycling industry to create the world’s first clean, sustainable, scalable, extraction technology which is the same cost or cheaper than other dirty extraction methods.
And hey presto! We have unlocked the ability to use supercritical CO2 on any material, by removing the cost and time barriers that have kept this from mass adoption in the past. One of the massive benefits is that this will unearth valuable extracts from ingredients that would otherwise go overlooked and unutilised, in a way that is pure and clean - fruit, nut, seed, skin, shell, pulp, rind, pomace, pip, leaf, vine, etc. You name the biomass- we want to try it!
I know what you’re thinking. This doesn’t sound like our usual brand of Citizen Kind client. Well, you’re right! They’re not! The reason I got involved was when I learned about the potential impact that this technology can have on not only the food we grow (and waste!) but also other industries such as cosmetics, drug discovery and industrial chemicals, I was all in. The food landscape is large and complex, and innovative solutions that can offer ways to reduce the impact of the burden on the earth of feeding 9 billion people, need to be ushered in just as quickly as those that can help people decouple from their addictions to animal products.
For those interested in finding out how this can be used to unlock the hidden revenue buried in your supply chain and waste streams, this will give you more of an overview: SCO2. Or come and meet us at Booth 12 at HackSummit in Lausanne, Switzerland!
We’ll be at the StartLife pitch event in Amsterdam and F&A Next the following week.
We are in the process of closing our first round of investment but there is still a window of opportunity for those interested to invest in ground-breaking innovation which can unlock billions of dollars in revenue from ingredients, commodities and overlooked biomass in the world’s biggest food manufacturers.

Bringing the vibes!
And of course, I couldn’t resist taking the team to sample some of San Francisco’s vegan delights! This veggie hotspot truly delivered on flavour and more than satisfied the palates of these weary travellers! Look at those faces!
